🎧 The Information We Carry: Genetics and Hearing Loss

Join us for an informative conversation exploring what we know about genetics and hearing loss and what new developments may mean for individuals and families.
📰 Complimentary Hearing Life Magazines for Chapters
We’re preparing the Fall issue of Hearing Life magazine, and once again, HLAA is offering complimentary copies to chapters.
If your chapter would like copies, please email me at mkruse@hearingloss.org with:
- The number of copies you’d like (up to 25)
- The mailing address where they should be sent
We also ask chapters receiving magazines to share a brief report about how they were used, along with photos whenever possible. We’d love to showcase the creative ways chapters are using Hearing Life to educate and engage their communities!
Please submit your request by close of business Thursday, August 27.
HLAA Virtual Veterans Chapter
Tuesday, September 15 | 8:00–9:00 p.m. Eastern
HLAA’s Virtual Veterans Chapter will welcome a special guest speaker, Chet Frith, Director of the Office of 508 Compliance at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Chet will discuss the work of the Office of 508 Compliance, which helps ensure that VA information, communications, technology, and digital services are accessible to people with disabilities. He’ll also talk about the importance of Section 508 accessibility within the VA and how his office works to improve access to technology and information for Veterans and VA employees.
A Q&A with Chet will follow the presentation.

🤖 HLAA National Zoom Meeting: Artificial Intelligence in Hearing Loss

What could artificial intelligence mean for the future of hearing health?
Join us for a special HLAA National Zoom Meeting featuring Jan Blustein, M.D., Ph.D., and hosted by Holly Cohen, Shari Eberts, and Roxana Rotundo.
Dr. Blustein will share insights from the HLAA 2026 Research Symposium session, “The AI Revolution in Hearing Health: Smarter Tech, Greater Access.”
The presentation will be followed by small-group community sharing around the question:
“What has been the silver lining in your hearing loss journey?”

🧬 The Genetic Connection: A New Support Group for Parents
Thursday, September 24 | 12:30–1:30 p.m. Eastern
HLAA is excited to launch The Genetic Connection, a new peer support group for parents of children with genetic hearing loss.
This welcoming virtual group will give parents an opportunity to connect, share experiences, ask questions, and learn from one another. The first meeting, led by Michelle Hu, Au.D., will focus on what families should know after their child has been identified with genetic hearing loss—including what the diagnosis means, what steps to consider next, and how genetic hearing loss may differ from other types of hearing loss.
