We would like to share some information from our NYC chapter. HLAA-NYC’s September–October update opens with President Katherine Bouton highlighting the Chapter’s Walk4Hearing kickoff on September 17 at Riverside Park, where teams including WalkNewYork, led by Toni Iacolucci, raised $19,700—exceeding the $15,000 goal—with funds split between HLAA National and the local Chapter. Bouton explains how the Chapter uses resources for captioning support (like CART) and speakers, as well as for accessibility and hearing-loss services such as TDF Accessibility Programs (TAP) and the Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC), while also seeking a centrally located accessible meeting space for 50+ people. She adds new board member Marcelo Reda and points members to upcoming virtual, captioned fall meetings on Zoom, including October 17’s cochlear-implant panel and additional sessions through June (from accessible travel to captioning and awards). The newsletter also recaps the September meeting on access to NYC culture, featuring speakers from theatre and museum accessibility programs, plus practical updates on TAP offerings for open-captioned shows, a new hearing loop tip for TKTS, and information on FCC closed-captioning complaints.
